SquashGym - Palmerston North

Not many clubs in the world can boast a repertoire like SquashGym, Palmerston North. Within a span of a few years, SquashGym have played hosts to the National championships (on an all glass court with live television coverage), the world junior men's championships, the world women's team championships and now aiming for professional events. The vibrant club in the small but resourceful community has a membership base of over a thousand enthusiasts - 800 for Squash alone! Run by a pool of talented and friendly staff, this excellent facility would be the envy of the best venues and administrations in the world.

I have played in Palmy for ten years - enjoying every visit. The city seems to be built for Squash events and so  it has proven as well. An enthusiastic team under visionary leadership, SquashGym continues to lead the way in the world of Squash. So when I got a call from the club to be based here for a part of the New Zealand Squash season, I jumped at the opportunity. They understood my playing commitments and travel to tournaments locally and in Australia. In my player/coach role I would represent the club and the Central districts alongside helping with their Squash programs. This provided an excellent opportunity for me to return to New Zealand for the season here as well as learn more about the sport and test my teaching abilities. I look forward to my time in Palmerston North.
