Another season in Europe

The two-month long tour of Australia and New Zealand left me exhausted. Traveling all the way from Europe and then plenty of further travels within each country, playing 7 events and trying to train at the same time took it's toll. Any energy left was squeezed out by the taxing 30-hour journey from Canberra to Leiden. Well settled in this lovely South Holland town, I now look at what lies ahead.

Tournaments over the last two months meant there was no time for a rest after an extensive European season. More importantly, the off season training was missed. With no tournaments in sight for nearly two months I had plenty of time to prepare for the October events - mainly the World Open - which is in Rotterdam this year. I haven't had this long a time to train for nearly a year and this is a perfect opportunity to work on weaknesses and improve on strengths before my first tournament. The prime focus in the first month is fitness and I will be making full use of catching the end of summer here in Europe by getting outside for runs.

My first ranking tournaments will be in October when I plan to play three events starting with the PSA Cup in Valencia then the Santiago Open, followed by the World Open starting at the end of October. Dutch league matches starting in September will be excellent match practice and will help test the improvements before going into competition. On top of these I will also have local tournaments to compete in. Kicking off the season will be the European Clubs Championships in Belfast from 8-10 September. I will be representing my Austrian league team Wiener Neudorf against champion clubs from each participating nation.

Looking forward to another season in Europe.
